Don’t Give Up

Its a total family affair with Raj + Sara. We photographed Sara’s sister Rachel’s wedding back in 2009. Rachel and Sara are also Ben’s cousins and its so fun to photograph a wedding where people you love are involved. Raj+Sara’s wedding was a little crazy. Due to an all day drizzle fest, their outdoor wedding headed indoors. Depsite the weather, we still traipsed around KC capturing some amazing moments between these two. It was so apparent to us how honored they felt to be with the other, that they got “picked”. It was a sweet time.

First look in a windy tunnel with pretty light…

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, a wealth of visual inspiration. No amount of drizzle could have kept us inside.

This black sculpture completely captivated me. Sara’s delicate porcelain skin against the black texture was outrageous.

LOVE.

One of my favorites of the day. LOVE LOVE LOVE. This was such a quiet moment for all of us.

This is where the wedding was supposed to be. We stopped by just to see how wet it truly was but ultimately Sara + Raj had to make the final call to move their ceremony. It was sad, but we were able to capture these almost fairly tale like images.

No filters used here, just lovely rose bushes softening the scene. I and in LOVE.

The actual ceremony spot. *sigh* But we were all cheered up with some champagne!

The ceremony was moved to the River Market Event Space, the site of their reception. If it was going to be moved inside, we were SO thankful it was here. There was so much natural light and great architecture. Also, both these guys love climbing….notice the groom’s cake. :)

Slightly giddy?

The Don’t Give Up Project, a select group of photographers who care more about marriage than wedding photography. Marriage is seriously our passion. Ask any of our couples. Join the Movement, find out more here!

And then the REAL dance party got started. Watching these families dance together was hilarious and a little dizzying, theres a lot of dancing in circles.

Raj + Sara’s parents. Its inspiring to us to see couples who’ve made made marriage work. Its worth it people!

Raj+Sara, Thank you for such a sweet sweet day with you. We hope these images will be such a blessing to you as you remember the most important commitment you will ever make! We love you!!

Almost a year from their 17-hour long first date, Dan+Susan made the most important commitment of their lives. And we got to be there. Is this shot inappropriate? Oh well. :) Sisters…Seeing each other for the first time, I love how Susan is clearning blushing! All day they were touching each other’s wedding bands as if they just couldn’t believe it was real. Also, it was snowing. A magic tree of course…I never realized how visual pine needles can be, I love this orange. Susan, stunning. Love. Possibly my favorite of the day…The umbrella started out for our protection and turned into a huge source of inspiration to us.The Don’t Give up Project…we believe its more about marriage than weddings. Inside their getaway car…a sweet mustang. Pure joy.Green apple inspiration. I like this a lot.

Thanks for letting us be apart of something so significant. We love you guys and pray blessings upon blessings onto your marriage!

Jason+Lisa, two people we were incredibly privileged to meet, become friends with, and be apart of their wedding. They are both just so loving and generous, I think I may have actually cried the first time I met Lisa, and we’ve cried almost every other time we’ve interacted with them, thats how powerful their connection is. Their wedding….tears, almost the whole time. You may remember their amazing engagement session back in the Fall.

This was an incredible moment between mother and daughter. It was so intimate I was actually crying (although thats not such a big shocker). Moms, take time to speak truth to your daughters on their wedding day!

Obviously the most important meal of the day….
I love love love this image, I don’t even have a good reason why, I just do.
Standing in the spot where they got engaged, an emotional moment.
Sometimes there is hardly a moment to breathe on your wedding day, let alone have a moment alone with the person you’re marrying. Time away from the wedding party and family is a huge part of our photography process on your day. It allows you to refocus on whats actually happening around you, not just when you need to be where, hows your eye make-up, etc. We want to capture you really seeing each other.
So yeah….they’re pretty funny.
ANNNNDDDD then we played with nerf guns. Told ya, these guys rocked x 1000.
Are they not hilarious? This was SO much fun!
Some might say this is cheesy which is fine, but it was totally THEIR idea! Their wedding was all about reflecting their personalities and passion. One of those passions just happens to be nerf fights. :)
Their Don’t Give Up moment. You can learn more about this movement here. Its pretty amazing and we’re honored to be apart of such a unique group of people.
We heart night photography. We loved this image so much its hanging in our studio.
Thank you Jason + Lisa, for letting us into your lives and bringing meaning to what we do. We love you guys!

Peace friends.

A wonderful, al be it, cold November day in Lincoln, Nebraska, Derek + Carissa exchanged vows and kisses. And now they are husband and wife.

Such a beautiful time of prayer…

ok this was hilarious…. they needed a moment alone after the ceremony but of course I followed. I catch them kissing… they hear me….

and just keep right on kissing! It was adorable!

Derek proposed to Carissa in a barn and at heart, they’re both small town kids.

The many silly faces of Derek + Carissa….

This is one of my favorites….

The DON’T GIVE UP images…. What is DON’T GIVE UP? Its a movement of photographers who care more about marriage than they do about wedding photography. These images are meant to remind Derek + Carissa when marriage gets hard, that what they have and their commitment to each other, its worth FIGHTING for.

I would try to explain what was happening during these next two shots, but you wouldn’t believe me if I told you, you just had to be there. Hilarious doesn’t even begin to capture it.

They LOVE dancing, and they’re freaking good at it. Exhibit a-d.

Thank you for sharing such an amazing day with us! And Merry Christmas!

Peace.

Great NEWS!!!

I started my journey as a photographer when I was 15 in my high school dark room. At 24 I started working professionally with Janine McClintock (fabulous!) Fives years later I still cannot believe this is my job. AND I get to do it with my husband. We get to share this incredibly fantastic learning, journey, labor of love. Its not all double rainbows, being a (very) small business owner in an ever expanding industry seriously sucks sometimes. But I am honored and freaked to say that we are entering a new phase. Starting December 1st, LOVE EQUALS will have its own brick & mortar location in downtown Lincoln!!! YIKES!

Our new home is 124 south 9th Street! Also known as Gallery 9 or The Mission Arts Building. We’re moving into an all natural light studio with high ceilings, big windows, and surrounded by other artists. We. Are. PUMPED!

We’ll be announcing our opening soon, so stay tuned, we’d love to have you all there to celebrate with us! Happy Monday! Peace.
